They wove nothing, but pretended that there was cloth being woven.[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;13811&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]The emperor came to see the cloth.\u00a0 He could see nothing.\u00a0 \u201cAm I unintelligent?\u00a0 Am I not suitable for my job?\u201d he thought and went away troubled.\u00a0 Everyone in the country now knew that only wise people could see the cloth.\u00a0 He thought he will get others to see the cloth and get their opinion of it.<\/p>\n<p>He sent his ministers there and asked them to see what the material looked like.\u00a0 The rogues took them to the loom and pointed at nothing.\u00a0 \u201cIsn\u2019t this beautiful?\u201d they asked.\u00a0 \u201cAren\u2019t the colors splendid?\u00a0 Just look at this design here!\u00a0 Isn\u2019t it magnificent?\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]The ministers did not want the others to think that they could not see anything.\u00a0 They did not want others to think that they didn\u2019t deserve their jobs.\u00a0 So they said,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, it\u2019s very beautiful.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cThe colours are lovely!\u201d\u00a0 \u201cHow magnificent it looks.\u201d They went to the emperor and told him the same thing.<\/p>\n<p>The emperor sent his military next.\u00a0 They said the same thing.<\/p>\n<p>The emperor sent the teachers, they said the same things.<\/p>\n<p>The emperor sent in ordinary citizens.\u00a0 They did not want to look stupid.\u00a0 So, they said the same thing.<\/p>\n<p>A big procession was organized to show off the new clothes to all the people.\u00a0 They were all very excited.\u00a0 They all knew about this special suit now.\u00a0 The rogues asked for more and more gold thread and silks.\u00a0 They packed it all away in their bags and pretended to work at the empty loom.\u00a0 The night before the procession, they got lamps lit all round their room and worked away with needles and thread.\u00a0 They pretended to cut and sew and look at \u2013 nothing.<\/p>\n<p>In the morning, the rogues came in pretending to carry something heavy in their hands.\u00a0 They held up the \u201cdress\u201d and said, \u201cHave you ever seen anything more beautiful than this, your majesty?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo indeed,\u201d said the emperor.\u00a0 He did not see anything.\u00a0 But he did not want his people to think that he was stupid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will dress you if you take off your clothes,\u201d said the rogues.\u00a0 So the emperor did.\u00a0 He was naked but no one wanted to admit that they could not see the suit, so they did not say anything.\u00a0 The rogues pretended to dress him carefully.\u00a0 They smoothed out the collar, tightened his trousers, spread out the cape and asked the noblemen to carry the end of the cape.\u00a0 They couldn\u2019t see anything, but they held their hands out and the rogues carefully arranged the cape on their palms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou look magnificent,\u201d said the rogues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes, yes, yes, you look wonderful\u201d said the ministers and the miliary and teachers and everyone else.<\/p>\n<p>The band started playing music.\u00a0 And the procession started moving forward.\u00a0 There were hundreds of people lining the roads, because they all wanted to see this magnificent dress.\u00a0 Everyone gasped seeing the naked emperor.\u00a0 But no one wanted to say anything.\u00a0 They did not want anyone to think they were stupid.\u00a0 So they all said, Wow! Magnificent! Lovely!
