There was a program jointly organized by the Department of English Language (DELT) and
the Library to introduce the English Learning Zone to the USJ community on 31 August
2025.
The event was attended by the Vice-Chancellor, Deans of the Faculties of Humanities and Social
Sciences, Applied Sciences, Technology, Graduate Studies, Medical Sciences, and
Computing, the Librarian, the Registrar, as well as other academic staff members from
faculties and the library.
During the program, the Librarian, Dr. Sampath Pushpakumara (Head of DELT), and Dr.
Madhubashini Ratnayake emphasized the importance of promoting informal English learning
within the University, and how the English Learning Zone supports this initiative by
providing specialized services and facilities designed to enhance language skills.
Following this insightful discussion, attendees were given a guided tour of the English
Learning Zone by the Librarian and Dr. Madhubashini Ratnayake. The event concluded on a
promising note, highlighting the future expansion plans for the English Learning Zone.
